Where Did Spray Tans Come From?
Mar 06, 2025
Have you wondered what makes you 'tan' with a spray tan?
It is such an interesting concept of changing the skin tone WITHOUT
the sun or UV rays--and we love that this process was founded by a
female researcher!
We're kicking off Women's History Month by recognizing Eva Wittgenstein! She discovered children's skin being colored with their medical treatments in Cincinnati Hospital in the 1950s, and studied the effects of DHA (sugar) treatments further. The reaction that changes the skin is referred to as the Maillard reaction, and was originally
recognized in 1912 by and named for Louis-Camille Maillard.
